Digg versus Netscape Vote
Author: Leo Mirabuna
Just got me into the scenario of comparing diggs and netscape votes and who are the two making the most traffic in terms of user social media site where user is the driver on news and stories sent into the internet. There are issues, advantage, disadvantages and loopholes on the two big network but cannot figure out who will win the two until I have this idea to see who will win in terms of diggs versus netscape votes.
Let us first check the history of the two. Let start with Digg.As we all know digg is one of the best site on the net where user is the main focal point. It was started way back in 2004 by Kevin Rose, Owen Byrne, Ron Gorodetzky, and Jay Adelson as an experiment where they started to build the site as a beta on October 2004 and was launched December on the same year. The first idea of name was Diggnation but kevin want it shorter thus having it named "Digg".It was an ad free before but then as time evolves it incorporate the power of adsense into the site. Few categories was deployed at the start then as site becomes more and more popular they have added few more to serve and put into the right categories the stories and news sent by the users.
Let's go the Netscape short story, just for a summary of the events. I am not talking about the browser but the day netscape implemented it user submitted news, events and stories and the idea of having the "Netscape Vote" system. We also know that netscape is also a system where user submit news and stories where they (users) have the power to either vote or reject the stories submitted. It was June 2006 when Netscape made its redesign and restructing event on their site creating its own system or user voting system. With the main architecture by Brian Alvey and Lead Developer Alex Rudloff. It was maintained by Jason Calacanis CEO of Weblogs, Inc till he left way back 2006 in November in AOL.
Now we check the functionality of the two big time social media site. Both have the function where users submit their article, news, stories and now even videos and let visitors and user vote (for Netscape) and Dugg (for Digg) for what they think should appear in the front page of the site. Making it to the front page of both site is difficult since your story or news should be of their taste. Both have the power to bury, delete stories that was generated by spam submission or where user feels it should not be in the site. Meaning it is the user who drive what should be on the main page. Both have the resources where webmasters can integrate the button to put into their site to check how many netscape votes or digg "dugg" their stories.
Netscape has its "Netscape Vote Effect" and Digg have its "Digg Effect". Let us determine who will have the greatest social media by counting Netscape Vote versus Diggs. Let's us also see who will make it to the front page in a short term using this article, Digg or Netscape?
